1. Acer Predator X35 bmiphzx – Best Ultrawide 1440p Gaming Monitor

Acer’s Predator X35 is the best 1440p gaming monitor we’ve seen so far. This massive 35″ curved gaming display is loaded to the gills with display technologies like G-Sync, HDR1000, ultra-fast refresh rates, and low response times. The X35 and the ASUS ROG Swift PG35VQ have identical feature sets, but we settled on the Acer monitor since the ASUS monitor costs a third more than the X35.

The Predator X35 is one of a handful of ultrawide gaming monitors capable of providing a 200Hz refresh rate. Acer decided to use a VA panel on the monitor to balance high refresh rates, strong contrast ratios, and outstanding color reproduction. VA panels are notorious for their response times, but Acer managed to trim the X35’s response time to 2ms.

Other gaming essentials include G-Sync Ultimate for smoother gameplay with HDR enabled. The Predator X35 features Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) backlighting divided into 512 zones, allowing for a peak brightness of 1000 nits. In addition, the X35 comes with Quantum Dot technology for enhanced color quality.

On the physical side of things, the X35’s stand allows for tilt, swivel, and height adjustments. Alternative mounting is provided by 100×100 VESA mount. Connectivity options come in the form of a single DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0 port, one USB 3.0 upstream port, and three USB 3.0 downstream ports for good measure. Coming in at a whopping 49″, the Samsung Odyssey G9 is the largest 1440p monitor on this list. This big boy’s feature set is equally impressive as it’s size. Tagged as a gaming monitor, the G9 boasts a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and Nvidia’s G-Sync technology for smooth and responsive gaming. The G9 is an HDR1000-certified display that offers additional eye candy.

Underneath the G9’s sleek frame is a 10-bit VA panel with a 1000R curvature for exceptional viewing angles. Capable of supporting a DQHD native resolution of 5120×1440, the G9 has a viewing area roughly the size of two 27″ panels. Samsung used OLED backlighting on the G9, allowing it to achieve 1000 nits of peak brightness with HDR enabled. Color space coverage is outstanding at 125% sRGB, 92% Adobe RGB, and 95% DCI-P3.

With its well-rounded features and its enormous panel, the Samsung Odyssey G9 has the perfect combination of size and performance. The G9 could use some extra ports, and scaling could also be an issue for some games, but these drawbacks aren’t a dealbreaker given the G9’s features.

3. Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A – Best 27″ 1440p Gaming Monitor

The Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A is a 27″ 1440p IPS gaming monitor from ASUS’ TUF line of gaming monitors. Compared to its predecessor, the VG27AQ, the VG27AQL1A has slightly higher refresh rates, quicker response time, wider color gamut, and better HDR performance. Of course, these upgrades cost an extra premium over the older monitor.

Breaking the features down, the VG27AQL1A features a 170Hz refresh rate, which is slightly faster than the 160Hz offered by the VG27AQ. The TUF displays have a response time of 1ms and both sport Adaptive-Sync and Asus’ proprietary Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology. The similarities on panel specs, however, end here.

The VG27AQL1A features an exceptional 130% sRGB coverage compared to 99% on the VG27AQ. The newer monitor outshines its predecessor at 400 nits compared to the 350-nit VG27AQ. On paper, both displays are HDR-ready. But the VG27AQL1A is a better performer with its 10-bit color depth and HDR400 certification. In contrast, the VG27AQ only has an 8-bit color depth.

When it comes to I/O ports, the TUF monitor is a bit conservative. It has a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.2, and two USB 3.0 ports. For audio, the display comes with a pair of 2-watt speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The included stand offers tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments.

The Asus VG27AQL1A has all the bells and whistles of a 1440p gaming monitor. With high refresh rates, fast response times, Adaptive-Sync, and the VG27AQL1A offers stutter and tear-free gaming. The TUF display also has ELMB and HDR technology for enhanced gaming visuals.

4. GIGABYTE G32QC – Best Bang-for-the-Buck 32″ 1440p Gaming Monitor

The G32QC was one of the first gaming displays from leading computer hardware manufacturer Gigabyte. The Taiwanese company sought to take on gaming monitors from mainstays like ASUS and Acer. When they entered the competition, they intended to do so with a bang by offering affordable but feature-packed gaming displays.

The G32QC is a monitor with a massive 32″ display with a 1500R radius. Although Gigabyte opted for a VA panel in the G32QC, the company didn’t cut any corners when it comes to gaming features. The display features a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time for stutter-free and responsive gaming. For tear-free gaming, the G32QC has AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro technology.

On the physical side, the G32QC sports one DisplayPort 1.2 port, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and two USB 3.0 ports. The stand offers limited ergonomic flexibility, only allowing for tilt adjustments. Thankfully, the G32QC comes with VESA mounting holes.

OUR TAKE
It’s hard not to recommend Gigabyte’s G32QC. The monitor is feature-packed and is also among the cheapest 1440p gaming displays. Despite its ergonomically awful stand, the G32QC is a highly capable gaming monitor overall. It has a fast refresh rate, low input lag, HDR400 certification, and FreeSync support.

5. ASUS PA278QV – Best Budget 1440p Productivity Monitor

The ASUS PA278QV is a productivity monitor aimed primarily at professional designers on a budget. While most professional-grade monitors carry a considerable premium, the PA278QV is an exception. The PA278QV’s main selling point is its superb color accuracy and wide gamut. The monitor is factory-calibrated like most of the ProArt series monitors.

The PA278QV uses an IPS panel that natively supports 2560x1440p resolution. The monitor has exceptional color accuracy and has Delta E rating of < 2. Color coverage is also excellent at 100% at sRGB and Rec. 709, respectively. The PA278QV also comes with Adaptive-Sync technology, which comes as a surprise for a professional monitor.

The ProArt monitor is not short on connectivity. The PA278QV has a single HDMI 1.4 port, a Mini DisplayPort 1.2, one DisplayPort 1.2, a Dual-link DVI-D port, and four USB 3.0 ports. The lack of USB-C is a bit disappointing but understandable, given the PA278QV’s price.

OUR TAKE
For creative professionals looking for a capable monitor, the ASUS PA278QV is worth looking into. The PA278QV color quality and accuracy are decent out of the box. Despite its lack of USB-C port, the PA278QV has most of the features checked out.

6. LG 34WN80C-B – Best Ultrawide 1440p Productivity Monitor

LG’s 34WN80C-B is an ultrawide 1440p monitor designed for video editing and other productivity tasks. With a large 34″ ultrawide panel, the LG 34WN80C-B provides exceptional viewing angles and extra real estate for applications. LG’s inclusion of a USB Type-C port on the 34WN80C-B provides added benefit to a productivity monitor already loaded with features.

On the 34WN80C-B is a 21:9 IPS panel which natively supports 3440×1440 resolution. The 10-bit panel’s color coverage is adequate at 99% sRGB, while its brightness is capped at 300 nits. The static contrast ratio on the 34WN80C-B is 1000:1, which is relatively low. This mediocre contrast ratio could adversely affect the monitor’s HDR performance.

Aside from USB-C, the 34WN80C-B has two USB 3.0 downstream ports, two HDMI ports, and a single DisplayPort. There are no built-in speakers on the monitor, but it does come with a headphone jack. The included stand allows for tilt and height adjustments only. Wall-mounting, however, is possible for the 34WN80C-B.

OUR TAKE
The LG 34WN80C-B is a do-all professional monitor at a reasonable price. The display’s wide viewing area and broad color coverage make it ideal for a range of productivity tasks. Other nifty features include USB-C connectivity for added flexibility and HDR10 for multimedia consumption.

7. BenQ EX2780Q – Best Mixed-Use 1440p Monitor

The BenQ EX2780Q is a 1440p display that excels in both gaming and playing multimedia. As for gaming-related specs, the EX2780Q boasts a refresh rate of 144Hz and FreeSync support. The EX2780Q also features BenQ’s HDRi technology designed to monitor ambient lighting and automatically optimizes the monitor’s built-in HDR for an enhanced HDR experience. The EX2780Q  also has a USB Type-C port to provide data transfer and charging capabilities.

Underneath the EX2780Q’s minimalistic shell is an IPS panel capable of supporting 10-bit color depth.  The EX2780Q covers almost all of the DCI-P3 color space at 95%. The monitor is rated at 400 nits brightness and a static contrast ratio of 1000:1.

BenQ touted the EX2780Q as a gaming monitor. However, its 5ms response time is a bit slow compared to other gaming monitors but is acceptable. Aside from response time, other gaming-related specs are checked out. The monitor is capable of 144Hz refresh rates and FreeSync support for smooth gameplay. Throw in HDR, and you have a well-rounded gaming display.

The EX2780Q is a mixed bag when it comes to ergonomics. The EX2780Q’s stand looks flimsy and only allows for tilt. Good thing BenQ added VESA mounting holes to compensate for this lack of ergonomic flexibility. The included remote, and three speakers are a huge plus since it allows users to take full advantage of the display’s cinematic features.

OUR TAKE
The BenQ EX2780Q is worth considering if you’re into gaming and watching movies. The display has a fast refresh rate, low input lag, an intelligent HDR feature, native FreeSync support. The EX2780Q has decent DCI-P3 coverage for multimedia consumption, comes with a remote, two built-in speakers, and a subwoofer.

8. Xiaomi Mi – Cheap Entry-Level Ultrawide 1440p Monitor

The Mi gaming monitor is Xiaomi’s first foray into the increasingly competitive PC display market. The lone Xiaomi monitor is a 34″ ultrawide gaming display featuring a 144Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time, and FreeSync Premium support. Xiaomi took the minimalistic route in the Mi by focusing on the essential gaming features. The panel has no HDR functionality, motion blur, and other display-enhancing technologies.

The Xiaomi Mi uses an 8-bit VA panel with a 1500R curvature, 3440×1440 native resolution, with an aspect ratio of 21:9.  The display has a brightness of 300 nits and and a contrast ratio of 300:1. Color coverage is good at 121% sRGB and 85% on the NTSC color space. To reduce eye strain, the Mi comes with a low blue light filter and flicker-free technology.

Connection ports on the Mi is sparse. The monitor only sports a pair of DisplayPorts and another pair of HDMI 2.0 ports. Stand adjustability options include tilt, swivel, and height adjustment. The display is wall mountable with its 100×100 VESA mounting holes.

OUR TAKE
The Xiaomi Mi is a no-frills gaming monitor that focuses more on gaming performance than eye candy graphics. The lack of HDR is a bit of letdown, but the panel’s high contrast ratio and good color coverage make up for the disadvantage to a degree. For gamers who don’t mind, the Xiaomi Mi is worth considering.

What is the difference between WQHD, UWQHD, and DQHD displays?
